For over 40 years, Moda in Pelle has blended British sophistication with fine Italian quality to create stunning footwear, bags, and accessories. The brand is known for its exquisite craftsmanship and accessible price point. Moda in Pelle customers expect not just well-crafted fashion, but top-quality service — even when it comes to payment options.
“No other payment method has the level of trust provided by Amazon Pay.”
Recently, Moda in Pelle has expanded their brick-and-mortar business with new stores and a series of UK department store partnerships. At the same time, faced with increased demand from online shoppers, the company is prioritizing enhancements to their eCommerce experience to better cater to consumers’ digital needs.
“Customers now demand more options while shopping,” says Anil Patel, Moda in Pelle’s Director of Marketing and eCommerce, “where historically we’ve been able to rely on a more traditional checkout flow.”
Fewer returns from Amazon Pay shoppers
First-time shoppers and those through third-party channels have higher return rates. But return shoppers show significantly lower returns. Third-party sales can have a 40–50% return rate while returns for sales via Amazon Pay run just over 20%.
Moda in Pelle sees 15% fewer returns from their customers who use Amazon Pay.
Patel theorizes that first-time buyers are less familiar with the brand and its sizing, and as such, they generate higher returns. But return shoppers know what they want — and those shoppers prefer to use Amazon Pay. This is not mere speculation. Customer service reps at Moda in Pelle hear directly from their customers that they want to use Amazon Pay and that, when they see it as an option, they trust that their transaction will be safe and secure.
A halo of trust that benefits sales
“Our recent growth means more people are aware of the brand. New shoppers who are familiar with Amazon Pay see this option and trust we will provide a seamless customer experience,” says Keith Corrigan, Multichannel Development Manager at Moda in Pelle. “I don’t think any other payment has the level of trust provided by Amazon Pay.”
- 61% conversions for Amazon Pay transactions
- 15% fewer returns from Amazon Pay customers
- 40% faster checkout with Amazon Pay
- 9% cart share with Amazon Pay
Historically, Moda in Pelle shoppers have been skeptical of storing card information and user profiles on traditional Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) platforms. Integrating Amazon Pay helped alleviate those concerns—and proved results for the business.
“Customers are comfortable storing their card details with Amazon,” Patel adds. “Amazon automatically provides a certain level of trust — and that trust drives our average order value.”
Sales figures confirm the trust effect. Conversion for Amazon Pay transactions is 61% compared with 49% via other providers. The checkout experience is faster with Amazon Pay as well because customers already have their information online: only 35 seconds vs 83 seconds via native checkout.
Near instantaneous deployment
Moda in Pelle uses UK-based Visualsoft to power their online retail platform. Visualsoft is the platform of choice for a broad network of UK-based online retailers; Moda in Pelle relied on that reputation and Visualsoft’s partnership with Amazon Pay.
“It’s a no brainer for new platform development.”
Installation via the Visualsoft admin panel is fast and requires no coding skills. The integration is mobile friendly and supports multiple currencies.
“Amazon Pay is hard wired into the Visualsoft platform,” says Corrigan. “It’s a no brainer for new platform development.”
Moda in Pelle highlighted their online purchasing options at the launch of their website; they added Amazon Pay in 2019 and saw immediate adoption. Amazon Pay’s recognizable yellow button is now the first payment option for shoppers, and the most popular. That popularity directly affects the bottom line for Moda in Pelle.
“We’re opening 15 new concessions in the next 12 months and launching a series of online partnerships,” says Patel. “Customers want options, including when it comes to payment. Amazon Pay is at the forefront of that.”
