Casper boosts conversions and customer trust with Amazon Pay Express Checkout

Casper delivers a more frictionless online checkout experience by adopting Amazon Pay Express Checkout.

Casper is known as one of the pioneers of the “bed in a box,” a model that has simplified the mattress-buying experience. Shoppers invest significant time, money, and effort to find the right mattress, and the final steps of the purchasing journey can make or break their final decision. Having flexible payment options at checkout can help turn a researching customer into a new buyer, especially for high value transactions.

To ease the checkout experience, Casper chose to integrate Amazon Pay Express Checkout into their mix of payment offerings. Casper also offers Affirm, which is included through Amazon Pay, to provide installment payment options for their shoppers at checkout, further enhancing payment flexibility. With Amazon Pay, Casper is boosting trust at the payment stage, making it easier for customers to commit to a mattress purchase.

Evolving the online shopping experience

Founded in 2014, Casper has a mission to help people get their best night’s sleep. They offer customers a range of mattresses, pillows, and other sleep products that can be purchased online, on third-party websites like Amazon, and in 68 retail stores. Casper got their start as a direct-to-consumer company and prioritizes a frictionless user experience on their website. They continually add new features, such as multiple payment options, to streamline the customer journey.

“Our digital product team is focused on boosting our website conversion rate and doing everything possible to reduce friction at checkout,” says Keith Mancuso, Senior Manager of Digital Product at Casper. “There’s a significant overlap between Amazon customers and our own, so it seemed obvious to offer Amazon Pay Express Checkout on our website.”

Boosting conversions with Amazon Pay Checkout v2

Selecting Amazon Pay on the Casper website launches a fast and familiar checkout process. Customers can choose to pay with the credit card information stored in their Amazon accounts, or they can choose to pay over time with Affirm. Buying a mattress can be a significant investment, and by offering Affirm, Casper makes it easier for customers to commit to a purchase by spreading out the cost.

For Casper, integrating Amazon Pay was a smooth and efficient process, requiring minimal adjustments to their existing setup. The Amazon Pay team was available throughout the implementation to answer questions and provide assistance when needed. “It was also a lot easier to integrate Amazon Pay compared to other payment options,” says Mancuso. In fact, Casper was able to get Amazon Pay up and running much faster than expected.

In May 2023, Casper upgraded to Amazon Pay Checkout v2, a modernized web checkout technology that streamlines the customer experience and is easy on technical resources. With this integration, Casper further enhanced their checkout flow, which empowers shoppers to complete their purchases quickly and securely. In the eight months since the implementation of Amazon Pay Checkout v2, the company has seen a 20% increase in their conversion rate.

The integration of Amazon Pay has also enhanced customer trust and satisfaction. “A lot of people do not want to type their credit card number into a website that they’re not as familiar with,” says Mancuso. “By providing Amazon Pay, which is offered by a company that they do trust, we can bridge this gap for people who aren’t as familiar with Casper.”

Amazon Pay has helped Casper reinforce their position as a customer-centric brand. Customers appreciate the straightforward, hassle-free checkout experience and enjoy greater flexibility in how they choose to pay. With a range of choices, more people can shop in a way that’s most convenient for them.

Advancing checkout efficiency with Amazon Pay

With Amazon Pay, Casper has opened avenues for further innovations in their payment and checkout strategies. Looking ahead, the company plans to explore other Amazon Pay offerings to continue enhancing the customer experience and operational efficiency. They are also looking to include Buy with Prime, which offers fast, free delivery and a checkout experience that millions of shoppers trust.

“I think that Buy with Prime holds a lot of potential for us,” says Mancuso. “Customers get fulfillment by Amazon while having the convenience of Amazon Pay. We’re excited to explore more Amazon Pay options to not only meet our shoppers’ expectations but also make the checkout experience faster, more secure, and more convenient.”
